"We're going to allocate the next two sprints burning down tech debt"

2 things…

Yes, that's an actual quote from a dev team we were a part of.

I have a question for you - How does that statement make you feel?

If you're like most, it seems like the next two weeks are about to be wasted right? That's time that could be spent on developing new features that will bring in more money.

In a perfect world, you'd be able to do both - Have the eng team focus 100% time on new features leaving behind tech debt free code.

But how?

You could opt for the tried and true method by expanding your engineering team. Honestly, just thinking about the time, money, and effort that goes into expanding an engineering team makes my head spin.

At the very least you'd have to:

  • Create AND PAY for several job listings
  • Review resume submissions
  • Interview the top applicants
  • Send them a code challenge
  • Take time from engineers to have them review the code challenge (more time away from developing features by the way)
  • Have them interview with the engineering team
  • Interview with the CTO
  • And a bunch more steps that cost money and time…(that you're probably not tracking)

Is your head spinning yet?

There has to be a better way! What if there were an experienced team that had one mission, and that mission was to free your engineering team from the grips of a slow and unstable delivery pipeline? Okay, since we're daydreaming let's run with this a little bit.

What if this team had the capability to:

  • Break the cycle of context switching from feature work to tech debt work and back
  • Prevent unnecessary hiring
  • Decrease the time it takes to ship code
  • Magically turns old scary code into a modern masterpiece
  • Takes deploying code from a game of roulette to a perfectly executed dance routine

That's not something you'd be interested in, is it?

Allow me to introduce ourselves. We're Sixty Fifty Five Software and everything listed in those bullet points above we do just that.

But, that's enough about us, let's get back to you. Let's schedule a call to discuss more on how we can boost your engineering team.
